Mel, pretty disheartening and quite unfortunate that the US intervenes only in situations that promote their sovereign interest. I shudder to know this. Their international interventions is questionable.

Ben says...
What's the US doing about Congo? Why haven't they intervened?

The US wont intervene unfortunately because it's not related to their own national interest. If the DRC was Saudi Arabia or some other state with enough oil, trust me, the US would have been there ever since.

I think it's not just about rape in the DRC, it is violence, defilement, hate. Rape is being used here as an instrument of warfare. Rather than shoot the women, their female bodies are defiled and violently brutalised not necessarily to satisfy the sexual urges of the assailants but to colonise, cause harm and humiliate the victims' body and soul. It's a form of power relation. It's a form of war.
It's disheartening the UN is standing by and watching. Years from now, this would be seen as a form of 'genocide' - genocide of the human soul.
